I booked a single night to catch a boat to Mentawai, but the bathroom had no shower; it was a barrel on the floor with water of unknown origin and a bucket to wet yourself, an uncovered toilet, and no toilet paper. I didn’t complain because of the price, spent 10 days in Mentawai, then needed a night before heading to the airport the next morning, so I booked the same room again. When I arrived that evening the doors were locked and no one was there to attend; a neighbor told me the hotel had gone bankrupt and I ended up on the street searching for another place to stay.
