I loved the facilities, especially the terrace where we could mingle with other hostel guests; the kitchen lady was amazing and the breakfasts were exquisite. The internet signal in room 6 was terrible, so we had to step outside to get any connection.

The location is solid, the rooms are fairly roomy, and the reception staff are incredibly friendly—without them the rating would be lower. I had booked the Rainbow Hostel (not Waikiki) because of its good reviews, only to find out they’re the same place and both were still available. When I pointed this out they said they were changing the name. I also had items fall from the ceiling onto my bed; they moved me to another room, but that forced me to check out again and wait for the new bed to be ready. I asked for a discount for the hassle but never got anything. Wifi was spotty in the second room, and almost the entire rooftop terrace smelled of cigarette smoke, which isn’t great for a non‑smoker.

The staff were welcoming. Unfortunately, several issues disappointed me. First, the location listed on Booking was wrong: when I arrived at the address on the reservation, the hostel wasn’t there. Only after asking for directions did I get the correct location. Second, the duvet had an unpleasant smell and didn’t look clean. Third, the air‑conditioner was inconvenient because it was timer‑controlled and could only be turned on at preset times, with no freedom to use it when needed. Overall, these problems made the stay less comfortable than I had expected.
