Nestled in Littley Green’s tranquil Essex countryside, The Compasses is a historic Victorian pub offering free on‑site parking, Wi‑Fi, and a bar serving local real ales, wines, and spirits. Individually styled rooms include en‑suite bathrooms, tea/coffee facilities, flat‑screen TVs, and complimentary toiletries. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner using fresh local produce, plus a popular “Huffer” sandwich.

The basic rate included an en‑suite room, tea & coffee facilities, and the bed was very comfy and met expectations; after walking 30 miles from Epping along the Essex Way, we used the pub in the evening, enjoyed a 'Huffer' with chips and a few drinks, then had a light breakfast the next morning which set us up for a 20‑mile walk to Coggeshall, and we settled the tab after breakfast. However, in Room 4 the TV had no signal for normal channels and there were one or two dark stains on the floor.

Dinner was interesting with good beers and a reasonable wine selection, but I had to ask for items missing from the basic breakfast.

The bar and breakfast were good, the bathroom was well appointed and the facilities were nice, but staff were not always available, the door was locked, and the phone was not answered on arrival, though it was sorted later.
