My case was on the floor because there was nowhere else to put it, and a creature chewed off several tassels on my handbag.

The spot on the little “relax bay” cove with great bars and restaurants, reggae music, and friendly staff made the stay enjoyable. The hotel’s restaurant served tasty meals, and the beach had lounge chairs and poufs. Watching cocktails at sunset and lounging on the smaller beach felt better than the island’s larger ones. We were supposed to stay 4 days but ended up staying 10. Our bungalow was made of bamboo, had a terrace overlooking the sea, a mosquito net, and a fan. One night, a beach bar threw a rave that went on until 4 am—only once during the trip, so bring earplugs.
