“I loved this place and would stay again but in a downstairs room with the bath included”

The old house was great, but the staircase bannister was too low for comfort for my 74‑year‑old self, and the bathroom in the room I stayed in was across the hall; other bedrooms also had a bathroom.

“We would love to be able to return to Open Gates”

Zach and Carrie were wonderful hosts, and Zach served an outstanding breakfast every day; the bed was very comfortable and the linens very inviting, the room was large with plenty of space, and we were only a couple of blocks from the historic center, so we could walk everywhere and enjoy this charming small town.

The place was beautifully preserved, with period‑correct details except for the metal roof and modern, comfortable bath, and it sat in a perfect walkable spot; breakfast was spectacular. We had a small miscommunication about arrival because Booking’s email relay system required us to reply to messages relayed from Booking to email via Booking, and we couldn’t reply to messages from the host through that relay.

“We were charmed by Darien and Zack and Carrie were excellent hosts.”

The location was ideal for exploring Darien, a walkable coastal gem with majestic tree‑lined streets and plenty of natural wonders; we especially liked how comfortable and easy the place was. We couldn’t have been more content with the beds, the beautiful décor, and the many spots to rest, read, and plan our days.
