“Sympa mais je ne pense pas y revenir”

The guesthouse is well located, our room was roomy with a small outdoor area, and having a sink in the room was nice. The manager is friendly. The biggest downside was the damp odor—our room seemed to lack proper ventilation, and the smell was strong day and night. Towels didn’t dry well. The common areas could be cleaner; floors and dust weren’t swept daily. Also, there’s no lock for the sliding bedroom door, though there is a safe for valuables.

“Lovely traditional Japanese stay”

The owner greeted us warmly, the beds were comfy, and the building has a charming vibe. The owner asked where we were headed afterward and saved us from a disastrous stay in a remote spot (we canceled that plan). The shared shower and toilets are quite far at night.

We were greeted like guests, with plenty of tips for exploring Kyoto, and the hosts were lovely. The house feels pleasant, letting you experience traditional architecture; the bedroom was comfortable, and the shared living area lets you chat with the owners and other travelers. We stayed during Gion Matsuri, and the spot was perfect, right in the middle of the district where the floats are displayed.

Out of the 40+ places I've stayed while traveling, this is my favorite. The owners are the best I’ve ever met, offering recommendations that fit your interests. It sits in a great location with easy access to several restaurants, convenience stores, and subway/train stations. 10/10, I’ll definitely return to Kyoto and stay here again.
