“Sem ar condicionado, sem academia e sem um única pessoa que falasse inglês.”
I stayed at a so‑called 5‑star international hotel and it was a total letdown. The air conditioning was broken and the staff said it “could not be turned on at this time of year,” offering only a fan while Hangzhou was 25–30°C and my room was in direct sun for hours, making it unbearably hot and stuffy. The gym and pool were closed with no clear maintenance notice, and nobody could speak English—an issue that mattered because I was attending an international conference and many other foreign guests were there too. I had to use a phone translator for everything, from complaints to check‑in, and when I asked about English staff, I was told the only one was on vacation, which is no excuse. At check‑in they tried to charge a 3,000 RMB deposit, which was outrageous since my total stay cost far less; after arguing through a translator app they finally dropped it. The hotel was poorly managed and far below the service and comfort expected from a 5‑star property.
