The location was good for exploring the area, and the first impression was a lovely country English pub. The chef, knowing we were staying, warned us that roasts sell out early on a Sunday and kindly offered to reserve portions for our later table booking, which was much appreciated. Parking was easy and secure, even though it’s not on site but directly behind the pub. The lady who cooked breakfast was very friendly and clearly put a lot of effort into providing a huge English breakfast for each of us; unfortunately we don’t have big appetites, so much of it was left on the plate, but what we ate was lovely. They also allowed us to check out but return to use the toilet facilities before heading home—no complaints! A beautiful place if you enjoy walking. Not complaining… but the rooms are a bit dated, probably due to the age of the building, so I’m not upset. We had two rooms—one with a bath/shower over and the other with a walk‑in shower. Both we chose not to use the shower (we would have if we stayed more than one night), but they were clean, though the shower curtain was grimy. All staff were friendly except one who had a bit of an attitude, especially toward a newer team member, which was clear at check‑in. We felt sorry for the newer member, who was just learning on the job, but the experienced staff’s attitude was unnecessary. We would have liked to be asked if we wanted a “full” English at breakfast; instead we were presented with a huge plate of food, most of which was wasted, and we felt bad about that—perhaps they could ask if people prefer a smaller portion and still charge the same. I didn’t appreciate the sports bar vibe (our problem), with TV screens blasting football in every corner. There was a huge wasp nest outside (not the pub’s fault, but the shop next door); we had at least five wasps in the bedroom overnight.

The inn was very cozy and the breakfast was the best during our two‑week stay in England. The parking behind the house was hard to find and not easily reachable by stairs, but the car was safe there. The pub was good, but the place was rather sleepy!

Good central location, decent pub. I’d booked an evening meal, but the kitchen closed at 7:45 instead of 8:00, so I couldn’t get dinner there.
