A resort unlike any other: isolated a few kilometers from the village, 2 bungalows and 1 dining area halfway up a cliff from which I could see a few turtles (herbarium just below the restaurant terrace), rays, and even a fairly large shark that I couldn’t identify. There isn’t a proper beach, but sandy access to the sea, hidden between two cliffs, making it easy to go snorkeling and return, despite the waves. That’s important because it’s the only activity on site and you’re left to yourself. The snorkeling is good with wildlife that seems not used to human presence. Easy because there are little or no currents when they appear violent offshore, beyond a barrier. No aggressive territorial fauna encountered. A friendly family of owners comes 3 times a day to welcome you, help carry your bags on an improvised staircase that goes down the cliff to the bungalows, and bring you meals. Spending a few days there while doing Wakatobi was a must for me. I say a few days because the comfort is very rudimentary, the owners have trouble maintaining these wooden structures, and I went alone. However, you’ll have a rare experience, alone with preserved nature and a sea protected from human activity, including fishing. The other positives are the electricity all day, the owners’ kindness, and the meals. The owners take your tastes into account. I’m happy I did it and would gladly return, but maybe not alone.
