“Great inn in a small town. Glad we stayed here”
The hotel sits beside the Shima River, where you can hear the natural sounds. The staff were very nice and assisted us from check‑in to check‑out, and the facility was very clean. The only issue was the smell in the room when we first entered; opening the windows and turning on the AC eliminated it and we eventually adapted.
“秘境でゆっくりと温泉を味わいたいなら、ここ!”
After decades we finally returned to the beloved Toyoshimaya we used to visit every summer, this time with the family, and although the exterior and baths still reminded us of the old days, the interior had been completely renovated into a very stylish and lovely traditional inn; the rooftop terrace was gorgeous, the staff greeted us with bright smiles, and the hot springs, cuisine, and service were all perfect—I’d love to stay again. The only drawback was that, being a historic inn, there’s no elevator—just stairs, which made getting to the baths and dining area a challenge for older guests; choosing a room with a private open‑air bath for my elderly mother turned out to be the right call, as she enjoyed it fully.
“Great Ryokan experience for our family. Beautiful setting and very attentive staff”
The location was convenient, the private onsen was nice, and the staff were very friendly, making for a good ryokan experience. The food looked appealing in the dishes but tasted rather bland, though perhaps that was the intended style.
“概ね満足です”
The meals were delicious and the on‑sen water felt wonderfully soothing, and the staff’s service was outstanding, but bringing in drinks wasn’t allowed and there was no vending machine, and the bath was a bit small.
The terrace onsen was great. The staff had limited English knowledge.
