“LOUDEST FIREWORKS ON NEWYEARS EVE I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE FROM 2100 TO 0030,MAINLY AT MIDNIGHT”
Bus 22 stops outside on 10 journeys a week, 5 on Tuesday and Thursday each way!!! The toilet and shower were not in the room as stated on booking but were one storey down stairs.
“Avoid. Even if you think yourself resilient.”
The sink and faucet in the room meant I didn’t have to go to the shared bathroom to brush my teeth. Noise from the next room, water sounds all through the night, and occasional cigarette smoke made it hard to sleep, and there was no way to communicate with the manager. I’ve stayed in many cheap places and am generally okay with low standards, but this one was below any standard.
The room was comfy, but the shower rail was damaged.
“Cheap yet not terrible.”
This was a very cheap stay near the centre of Southampton. The property is self‑check‑in, making it easy to access, and it was relatively clean throughout. This is definitely a stay there if you want a cheap kind of place, and I appreciated the free tea/coffee provided. It is definitely a 1* guesthouse. The rooms are small and pokey, and the beds are old but clean. I was hoping for a private bedroom (the advert was a little ambiguous), but ended up sharing a bathroom, which was relatively clean and functional but far from lovely. Definitely somewhere for a one‑night cheap stay.
“The price reflects the facilities, which are basic and functional.”
I found the GH less than a mile north of Southampton Central Railway Station, easy to spot, which was perfect for my needs, and the free Wi‑Fi was a real bonus. The building looked plain and the décor was basic and functional, giving it more of a hostel or HMO vibe than a traditional guest house; the room lacked a TV, though that was listed among the available facilities. What really bothered me was the constant clatter from the water pipes and the tank right next to the headboard of the single bed, a noise that persisted all night and was both distracting and odd.
