The hotel is very modern, the renovation in the common areas and rooms is gorgeous, and I recommend booking the upgraded room – the price difference is minimal, but the upgraded room is better. For 20 yuan per person you’ll get dinner; you’ll have to choose from Chinese dishes in Chinese, but they’ll serve you (I suggest the dumplings, they’re very similar to those from the European part of the world). Portions are huge, not plates but buckets are brought. Breakfast is varied, with both Chinese and European options. Staying one or two nights is great, and the bus to the airport is provided. Everything was excellent except the staff’s knowledge of English, which was a bit difficult, but in a world where everyone has 2‑3 translators on their phones, it’s not a major issue.
“Layover lifesaver, but English skills needed”
This hotel is a great choice if you're stuck with a long layover in Xi'an airport at night - the rooms are spacious and high-tech, with a great bathroom, and there's a 24-hour convenience store nearby. The free shuttle to the airport terminals is super convenient, running every 40-50 minutes. However, be prepared for a language struggle - not a single staff member speaks English, and it's pretty embarrassing for an international hotel chain like Mercure.
“Great staff, but language barrier”
The team here is really motivated and eager to help, even though their English skills are limited. It's great to see such a young and enthusiastic staff.
