“Staff excellent, food very good but sometimes less is better”
Overall, the stay was pleasant. The room (room 8) was small and couldn’t accommodate a couple of weekend bags; when I asked for a larger room, they were fully booked.

Located in the village of Elterwater, The Britannia Inn is a traditional Lakeland inn offering real ales and home-cooked meals in the heart of the Lake District, just 3 miles from Lake Windermere. This historic inn, dating back over 400 years, features oak beams, open fires, and homely rooms with TVs and tea/coffee facilities, serving a varied menu of local produce.

The location was convenient and the breakfast was good. The facilities were very basic, the room was cramped and needed an update, and the staff could have been better.

The country pub was stunning, the food was amazing (the best breakfast I’ve ever had), and the staff were absolutely wonderful.

The Britannia is a real gem. It’s a genuine Lakes pub that attracts walkers during the day, and in the late evening you’ll mostly have the place to yourself. We stayed only one night because we have a nearby timeshare, but everything was lovely. Our room overlooked the little green; when the window was open one morning the sun streamed in and the view was beautiful, enhanced by the sound of a few sheep outside. The staff were friendly and genuine, and the room was nicely decorated and clean. Both dinner and breakfast were high quality (the lamb henry and sticky toffee pudding are must‑tries). The only downside was that the pub is a few hundred years old, so the ceilings are low and the doors are small, but that’s part of its charm.
