From before the trip, the staff gave thorough advice to help us enjoy Yakushima, and even after arrival they continued to offer helpful tips. Nothing negative.

I was given insider tips about island life and local quirks, and the staff listened closely to my requests and troubles, helping me out with genuine care.

Everything about it was excellent. The hosts were incredibly graceful and helpful, from picking us up at the port to taking us to another location before we got back on the ferry, not to mention the cooking which was absolutely stellar. The location was very good, as were the facilities. 10/10

The owner couple treated us with great kindness, the food was exceptionally tasty, and the property stayed spotless throughout our stay—an outstanding lodging experience.

Yakunoyado Taguchi is a highly recommended spot for exploring Yakushima. The guest house itself is charming even though the bedrooms are simple, and the stay was enhanced by Shigeru and Hitomi, who went out of their way to help us navigate the island—offering suggestions, lending waterproofs, and driving us to various sites. Hitomi’s cooking is delicious, and the large baths are perfect after a day of walking. There are also two lovely cats. However, keep in mind that the communal area with sofa and tables closes at 9 pm, leaving only a futon or floor mats for indoor seating afterward; coffee isn’t included with meals; and the house is a 15/20‑minute uphill walk from the trailhead. Despite these points, we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it.
