“Brilliant, authentic village accommodation. Recommend!”
If you want an authentic Egyptian, Nubian experience, just go here. The place is lovely! Elephantine is a calm spot a short ride from the bustle of central Aswan, and it’s my favourite stay in all of Egypt. A real, authentic guesthouse run by Mostafa and his nephew Mohammad. They’re a great team with plenty of experience welcoming tourists to Elephantine Island and the Aswan area. The room is super clean, hot water is available, and the beds are comfortable and can be pushed together. The view across the Nile is very peaceful. If you decide to dine, you’ll get a very good Egyptian meal. Leave all your trips—Abu Simbel, Philae Temple, feluccas, etc.—to Mostafa. He has contacts with all local providers and will find you what you need at a fair price. Honestly, these guys are great. The public ferry is only a few minutes’ walk away. Elephantine Island offers a glimpse of real life here. I hope they don’t make the island too busy with tourism in the future because the joy is found in the local life of the island.
This is not a criticism, just information: the island and local village are very rural and basic, but they are very safe to walk around day and night. I hope all local guesthouse owners can help keep the island clean from rubbish and litter as tourism grows.
