We were thrilled with our visit. The Royal Oak was famous for its pies, yet we had never stayed there before. The pub offers two en‑suite rooms. The staff were friendly and made us feel right at home, and they cooked a marvelous full English breakfast in the morning. Everything we needed was there. The rooms are not modern, but that’s part of the charm.

The location, parking and huge bed were great. The room was tired, the flat‑screen TV was tiny, and the bar/restaurant closed early.

The heating worked well when switched on. The decor was tired, the shower was small and dated, and I would expect a power shower in 2026. There was nowhere in the bathroom to store anything except on the floor. The toilet seat was wooden, looking old and stained. The bed was just a double, though I can’t remember if that was what we booked; my brother in the next room had a king‑size. I hadn’t realized we’d have to go outside to the room up stairs. Breakfast was adequate, but I would have expected more choice.
