The gift‑shop guide was incredibly helpful and full of useful information, and the South Carolina room was spot‑clean. However, there’s no innkeeper, so you’re left to figure everything out on your own. The misinformation is insane – five different check‑in messages and emails with the same codes, and when we tried the door code it didn’t work. We called the phone number and got no answer. After wandering around the house for about five minutes (the gift shop was shut), I finally spotted a different code in one of the text messages (not any of the emails) and that one worked. Breakfast was a nightmare: the “free” option was just bagels and oatmeal on a tray, while the hot breakfast required a separate payment and a 48‑hour notice. I’d specifically booked the room with breakfast included, but when we arrived a few minutes early (the policy says you must be there at the exact time or you won’t be served) they told us not to sit in the seats reserved for a different room and we weren’t served at all, even though those people never showed up – because we were the ones who were supposed to be there. Other guests in at least three other groups/rooms complained that the breakfast situation made them angry, and the lack of an innkeeper was ridiculous. The tour‑guide lady was nice but kept apologizing and saying she could’t do anything, apparently because the owners force her to handle all the frustration. This is absurd.
