“Great hostel with good amenities, great location, friendly staff.”
Great hostel at a good location (Asakusa area) - about 15 minutes walking to the Ueno station (where the train from the airport stops), close to some monuments such as Senso-ji, half an hour walk from Tokyo Skytree. There's a supermarket (My basket) a couple of minutes away. Quiet area. Very friendly and chatty staff, always willing to help. Superb shared kitchen at the reception, with everything you need for cooking (pots, plates, utensils, glasses, a microwave, a bread toaster oven, a kettle, oil, different spices and sauces, instant coffee, tea bags, a fridge etc). The room also has a small fridge. You can use the shared washing machine and drier (for around 500 yen). There are body soap, shampoo and hair conditioner provided in the (small) bathroom. You also get a pack of a toothbrush and a small toothpaste. The hostel was quiet in the rooms but with good atmosphere in the shared spaces (tables, table games, etc.). We stayed in a room in the 5th floor and it lacked air during the hotter days, so I slept poorly. The air conditioning is useless because it's very loud. However, once the temperatures outside cooled down it was fine (we were there in the second half of October). We would have appreciated more towels (only one big and one tiny towel per person). Keep in mind the room is very small - if you bring more than one big suitcase you can't really move around. We found the beds and pillows too hard, but that really depends on each individual
