The room at Hôtel le RIVALET in Montaigut‑le‑Blanc, about 5.5 km from St. Nectaire, was acceptable, but the pricing drama ruined the stay. Booking showed €79.05, yet three hours later the hotel emailed that the rate was €71 plus a €14.50 commission, totaling €85.50, and the reservation was already non‑cancelable. When we complained they said the €71 rate applied in high season and we should cancel on Booking if we disagreed, which would have meant losing the booking altogether. The staff were rather cold and formal; no price list was posted in the room and no key was given, so after 23:00 we had to phone the owner to let us in. The room itself was fine, but the lack of price transparency and the inability to adjust the booking after the fact are serious drawbacks.
