The 18th-century Parador de Jaén castle sits atop Santa Catalina hill, its stone walls and historical features preserved through beautiful renovations. High, arched ceilings, wooden beams, and tiled floors characterize the interior. The hotel boasts an outdoor seasonal pool and a dining room with Arabic character, serving traditional regional soups and salads. Sunshine abounds, year-round.

The hotel sits on a rock promontory above Jean, right next to a castle that looks like a castle itself. Every staff member was super efficient and friendly, and the food and wine were great for a place like this. There were no complaints at all.

The Parador offers beautiful scenery right next to the castle, and the staff were great. Parking is right outside, safe and free. However, the hotel is 15 minutes out of the city, so taxis are needed and parking isn’t easy. The carpet in the main corridor was crinkled and worn, which felt awkward and a bit dangerous, especially when there’s a beautiful floor underneath.

The atmosphere and hilltop location were magnificent. Unfortunately, there was very little outdoor seating and no umbrellas. The swimming pool was closed, and it would have been better if the hotel had made it clear that it is closed in October.

The room was only 8 square meters apart from a small bathroom, and I think that size came from booking it through Booking. I told reception that this room was unacceptable for a Parador because I’ve had a Paradores friends card for 50 years.
