“Cosy room but a bit dark”
The staff were very friendly, even though I only had brief contact because the check‑in and check‑out were contactless. The room felt cosy, but it was very dark and the main overhead light was dim; there was little natural light. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was hot and powerful. The location was the best part, right in the centre of Cartmel and close to all attractions. I was grateful when the staff let me check in a couple of hours early, and the messaging throughout the booking period was excellent. On the downside, the room stayed cold until the heating kicked on at 9am, which was inconvenient if you’re out early on a walking holiday; I’d have liked to control the heating timing myself. I also wished there were photos of the exact room I booked, since the pictures of other rooms were noticeably lighter and brighter than the actual Rhyd room. I was surprised there were no shampoo, conditioner, or shower gel dispensers in the shower – only three small soap bars that weren’t obvious from the packaging. Noise from the restaurant next door was noticeable until about 10pm. It’s a lot of money for what it is, but Cartmel is an expensive destination.
