“Im großen und Ganzen war es in Ordnung”
The room and bathroom were clean, but there was only one bathrobe for the two of us, and no slippers – unusual for a hotel.

The Ghent Marriott Hotel combines historic charm with modern design, overlooking Korenlei on the Lys River. The hotel features an unusual lobby, fitness centre, and free WiFi. Air-conditioned rooms have a seating area and flat-screen TV. Located near Saint Bavo Square, Design Museum, and Gravensteen Castle, the hotel offers bicycle rentals and on-site dining at Poppi Coffee & Wine Bar and Midtown Grill.

I liked the good location, but there are serious problems. The parking is excessively expensive at 55 € per day while there’s a cheaper option just a block away. The reception staff were completely unprofessional and not friendly, unlike the staff at all the hotels we stayed in across Belgium. Then there’s the issue of being given a room without ventilation, a hall‑side window that doesn’t let air in – unacceptable for a hotel of this category. Also, the staff keep charging 200 to 300 € per day, even higher for some rooms, and the customer service is different from what I expect. It’s a huge disappointment. I’ve worked in hospitality worldwide and have seen many hotels offer basic courtesy and facilities like a pool, which this place lacks.

I stayed in a very central hotel with gorgeous breakfast, a huge room, and excellent service in every way; I would definitely recommend it to others. I also dined at Midtown Grill, where the service was very professional and the food was good—highly recommended. Everything was superb.
