Situated on the Pennine Way, the property was ideally located, spotless, and fully stocked with essentials like tea and coffee; the staff were friendly and attentive, the menu was solid with an excellent homemade Indian special, and the building had a fresh, newly refurbished feel.

Getting there was easy, but breakfast was mediocre—no fruit or yoghurt—and the trains nearby were noisy.

The location worked well as a stop on our northern trek, but the price was high for what was offered: basic, uncomfortable bed, a duvet that was too small and thin with no extra blankets, cold nights, worn pillows, poor window shutters that didn't block bright street lights, hair in the shower tray and on the floor, a split toilet seat, overall tired and neglected furnishings, ordinary pub food at restaurant prices plus a 10% service charge, a minimal breakfast buffet despite a nice cooked breakfast.

The spot was convenient for walking to Hadrian's Wall, but the rooms were tiny and the place felt a bit tatty, making it overpriced; staff were friendly yet a bit chaotic, breakfast served in a gloomy room, the bar/restaurant nearly empty and chilly, and overall it was overpriced.
