The staff were friendly, Asakusa itself is nice, and the facilities looked good and were relatively clean. The shower pressure was fine and there was plenty of space for luggage. The closest train station was a 10‑minute walk, which was okay but not ideal. The nearest airport station was a 24‑minute walk, and we had to haul our stuff in the rain from there. The room was even smaller than we expected. The beds were extremely hard, which I didn’t mind, but they were too hard. The pillows were extremely thin, and when we asked for more they didn’t have any. The curtain wasn’t blackout and the window was large, which is nice during the day but not great at night. Both issues meant we slept terribly the whole time. The towel was small, and when we asked to exchange it midway through a six‑night stay, we were told to pay. Overall, we paid a lot for a cheap stay – there was no kitchen or plates, you had to ask the café. Everything was either limited or paid for (and we didn’t pay for a dorm or anything!). We were given one key for both people, no extra keys. We constantly had to wait for each other. The door auto‑locks, so we had to pass the key back and forth, which was extremely annoying. We had to fight for a spot in the morning because the café was small and open to the public. Only two laundry machines were available, and when we used them the dryer was broken, so we had to go elsewhere to dry our clothes (after we paid, we didn’t know this beforehand). The walls were thin – you could hear everyone, and everyone could hear you.
