The owners were really hands‑on, walking us through every trail and even driving us for free to the Zhangjiajie park entrance. Breakfast was a simple Chinese spread—noodles, eggs, not spicy—and it was made fresh each morning. The room was basic but had everything we needed, and they swapped the towels daily. It’s a bit off the main strip, but a ten‑minute walk gets you into the centre.

This family‑run hostel does a good job showing you how to get the most out of Avatar Park, and they’ve got washers and dryers on site for your laundry. The breakfast, however, was pretty thin—just eggs, cheese, milk and soy, and the dining area didn’t look very clean. We booked a family room for two adults and two kids, but only got towels for two and were first told breakfast was for two guests, though they eventually accommodated all four.

A modest hotel run by a family that seems to cater to summer visitors; the room was spotless and the staff were quick to help with anything we needed. The only drawback was that it’s a little farther from the main shopping street, so you’ll have to walk a bit if you want to be in the centre of the action. Otherwise, a pleasant and hassle‑free stay.

The host made us feel right at home, offering tips, taking us to the park entrance and even the bus station when we asked. Breakfast was limited to an oriental menu, but they tried to customize dishes on the spot as best they could. The downside is there’s no fridge in the room and the hotel sits a fair distance from the city centre. Still, the personal service makes it worth considering.
