Overall the inn was fairly clean and it was thoughtful that we could bring our dog and still sit with us in the dining area. However, the dinner rice was small and plain despite the hype about tasty meals, the variety and portions were modest and a refill‑free rice service felt disappointing, especially since the breakfast rice was larger and tastier. The standard‑type room felt extremely cramped because the roof overhang made the space feel narrow, making a comfortable stay difficult, and the price seemed high for what was offered.

We had a very comfortable stay during our snowboarding trip; the staff were warm, helpful, and quick to answer our endless questions and accommodate requests, even using WhatsApp for communication. The room we booked was spacious and clean, and on the top floor we enjoyed a lovely view of the train tracks and mountains. Though there was no ensuite, the on‑premises public bath with a rotenburo was great for winter. Breakfast buffet was tasty, though a bit rushed with only 50 minutes per seating. We booked one dinner but loved it so much we booked another the next evening; the staff did their best to accommodate us last minute, which we appreciated. The drying room, individual ski lockable racks, and complimentary shuttle to nearby ski resorts added convenience. The hotel is far from Echigo Yuzawa station’s action, especially evenings, despite a winter shuttle; driving is more convenient. A nearby train station has infrequent trains after a certain time, and the evening walk back can be very dark.

The pre‑arranged shuttle picked us up from the train station. Although the shuttle only runs during check‑in and check‑out, the driver kindly took us to the nearest JR station when we left and arranged pickup from that station when we returned late at night. The service was excellent, the ryokan clean, and it’s ideal for nature lovers as it’s surrounded by padi fields. The staff respond quickly and can communicate well in English. Nothing negative.
