The bed was awesome… the location convenient. Faulty tower springs come to mind, but that might be unfair to Basil. The place was easy to find initially, but the reception was nowhere near the street frontage signage, and several people were roaming around in the rain trying to find it. To be fair it was dark, but the signage was not lit up. Turns out it was way up the back in a building not even called Laurie’s Inn. The room was a good size and clean, it had all needed amenities, the beds were very comfortable and linen good quality… but the quality and friendliness at check‑in were only half as good as many similarly priced places we have stayed on this trip. The bathroom has at least 7 different surface type materials, and DIY attempts to waterproof the bath/shower area are very amateur. The wallpaper in the bathroom is bubbling and mouldy in places, and the towel rack is falling off the wall. The water ran from cold to scalding. The Internet remained missing during our 1‑night stay; we had to go to reception for a connection. Laurie’s has several buildings and the quality may vary across them… I don’t know. There are many rooms and it was fully booked… it’s time to put some $$$ back into the property to make it function better for guests. The problem is not cleanliness, it is lack of maintenance. Balustrades were broken and roped off. The Doryman Pub and Grill just up the road is highly recommended; food, service and entertainment all excellent.

The location was excellent and very convenient for driving to nearby attractions; the room was spacious with basic amenities like a TV, microwave, and towels. Check‑in was smooth but you need to be mindful of the timings. Most good restaurants are a short drive from the motel, and the area feels safe after sunset, with a nice sunrise view from the room. The sink and bathtub don’t drain water, so you almost have to rinse once and then turn the tap on again for another rinse. Overall, cleanliness could be better: the bedsheets didn’t seem super clean or fresh, and there were bugs crawling around the floor corners. They don’t bother much, but if you’re a cleanliness fetish, it will be a hard stay longer than 1–2 nights.

the staff were wonderful and accommodating. A mistake had been made in our reservation and they did what they could do repair it, with no vacancy and so no where to put our extra person. we originally book as a group with 1 room for 4 people and 1 room for 5 people. We had stayed in the 5 people before and it was great, pullout sofa, microwave etc. The group became smaller and we cancelled the 1 room for 4 people. When we checked in, the 5 person room had been cancelled and we were left with a 4 person room. A cot had to be brought in and made the room very small and hard to get around. This also meant no microwave, table etc. I showed the email from Booking .com cancelling the 4 person, but mistake was made somewhere and we were very cramped up

The bed was comfortable, but the building felt old and it seemed like cleaning wasn't frequent; the tub/shower looked so dirty that we chose not to use it.
