The historic building had plenty of character and was in a great neighbourhood, giving me a sense of safety and easy free parking nearby. I liked the thoughtful touches like free snacks and coffee in the reception lounge, and the breakfast was freshly cooked in a separate building just across the road. The rooms were clean and tidy with good shower en‑suite, but I felt it was a bit like an upscale student house; the breakfast venue seemed a touch grander and more luxurious, though that was a very minor point. Getting to Portland was easy and interesting, but it took about 20 minutes.

The old house was lovely, the room and bathroom were nice, and the breakfast was good. I liked everything.

Checking in was easy, there were fresh coffee and snacks, the inn was clean, and the small common room felt cozy and homey. I loved my stay, but the room I stayed in (6) wasn’t what I expected; the bed could be more comfortable, and the room had only one small window. My partner and I were probably the only guests that weekend, so I don’t understand why we couldn’t have been given a different room.
