The River Retreat Buchan

“It is a lovely area and the River Retreat is a restful environment.”

The bistro portion of the River Retreat was closed for renovations to we couldn’t visit it. The owners were thoughtful and considerate as they worked on the restoration while caring for us. The room where we stayed was just refinished and the space was top notch. Beautiful fixtures, lovely tiles and flooring, wonderful linens. It is clear that when the owners complete their renovations that this will be a first class establishment. I wish we could have seen the completed bistro. The careful restoration of the guest room indicates that the new bistro will likewise be well done

“Great accommodation, great hosts and beautiful surroundings.”

The location was great and the hosts were fantastic, making us feel very welcome. The accommodation was well kept, rustic, and very clean. The quiet setting was fantastic.

“Disappointing, expensive, needs finishing touches to lift the guest experience”

Convenient and clean, with a good bathroom and a comfy bed, yet the room was very small, there was no place to hang clothes or open small suitcases, it was too expensive, the reception was almost nonexistent, the TV was hard to navigate, and the heating was insufficient for the winter night.

The room was great, but the place itself was nice.
