“Pleasant, do your own thing. No lifts - for elderly folks.”

The rooms were clean and the photos online looked better than the actual place. We arrived during the Mid Autumn Festival, a major holiday in Taiwan, and most food outlets were closed the day before and the day of the festival, with no warning from the homestay. We chose this place for a Taiwanese breakfast experience, but when we paid, Miss Yeh informed us that there would be no breakfast because of the festival and heavy traffic. We tried to negotiate a refund, but she said the information was already posted on the website after we had paid the deposit and secured our booking. I checked the site and found two different comments—one with breakfast and one without—and received no compensation. At least some compensation would have been fair. That’s why I gave this rating. Otherwise, the stay was acceptable. We interacted with her many times over the 3 nights/4 days. I feel the posting was unfair because we had communicated with her repeatedly and she could have mentioned the breakfast issue earlier. I also didn’t like having to pay a deposit via TT; we had a friend in Taipei with a local bank account who helped us, but I’m not sure how other travelers paid large amounts through banks. The advertisement should have stated there are no lifts, especially for elderly guests who might want to book.

The room was large and new, and there were no complaints.

The heating was adequate, but the hot water ran out quickly; we had to wait over 20 minutes between showers for two people.

I was amazed to find a spa in the bathroom—this was the first time I stayed at such a unique guesthouse, and I definitely recommend it.
