“Deeply disappointing stay.”
The staff were friendly and helpful. The building looks gorgeous from the outside and the grounds are lovely, but the interior left a lot to be desired. The décor feels old-fashioned and the layout doesn’t suit guests well. There’s no main communal area for evenings. The Michelin‑star restaurant, situated in the best part of the hotel with the best views, is not accessible to hotel guests unless you book separately in advance. The only seating area is an outdated bar with uncomfortable chairs, and the relaxed restaurant is outside under canvas sides. Breakfast is served underground with no windows, which felt claustrophobic and dungeon‑like. We weren’t allowed to take our coffee cup outside to enjoy it, which was frustrating. Our bathroom was extremely small – barely enough space for one person. The hotel is also quite far from San Sebastián, which isn’t convenient if you want to explore the city. The staff being friendly was the only bright spot. Overall, we were very disappointed. There’s a mismatch between the beautiful exterior and grounds and the disappointing interior experience.
