The bed is comfy, but there’s no breakfast. Parking is only on the street, 300 yds away. The only bathroom is at the opposite end of the corridor, and its door lock often jams, trapping people inside until they force it open. The bedroom lock is also a bit flaky. A lot of investment is needed.

There was no dinner offered, and the host didn’t mention that there are other pubs with food in the area. The bathroom is shared with the host; the door wouldn’t open again because the latch was broken, leaving me locked in until the host finally heard my calls and knocks after a long time. From the outside, the door opened fine.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was nice and comfortable with a shared bathroom, and it stayed quiet even on a Saturday night, so the pub nearby didn't disturb me. I didn't hear any noisy bikes, unlike another review I read. The village is interesting and historic, and getting to York is easy. Everything was fine; parking was a short walk away but not an issue. It offers good value for money, though it's not a brand‑new luxury hotel.
