The place was well maintained and the location was great. The stairs to the upper rooms were exactly as described.

The hotel is right in the centre of Pictou. There was ample free parking and the rooms were all beautifully decorated and styled. We were offered a complementary glass of wine when we arrived

Sandy the Host was rude and arrogant. When my wife wasn’t feeling well, he made us wait until after 4:00 pm to check in. I asked his wife for an extra towel, and she stared at me as if no one had ever asked for one before. After I mentioned I write reviews, I finally got my towel. We never felt comfortable there. I had to take my wife to an emergency in the next town at 3:00 am, and when I returned for our belongings they pretended to care, but it felt fake. He will deny this in his rebuttal, I’m sure! We loved Nova Scotia, but not The Scotsman.

After checking in and dropping our bags, we were offered a glass of wine (or another drink) on the patio to meet the owners and other guests. They shared suggestions and insights about local restaurants, attractions, and the inn’s history, as well as the town and surrounding area. The optional breakfast was excellent and homemade. Our visit to the Scotsman Inn fell on Thanksgiving weekend, outside the busy season, so our queen‑bed room was upgraded to a king‑bed room. The room, featuring a huge four‑poster bed, was amazing, with beautiful furnishings and 12‑foot ceilings. We can’t praise enough the care Sandy and Cathy show as hosts; they truly pour their heart and soul into the inn to ensure guests have a wonderful experience. Thank you so much!
