I was told by a guidebook to avoid staying in Karak when visiting Karak Castle, but because I was trekking the Jordan Trail I had to stay here. The room was clean, basic, and cheap. Ahmed, the host, was very helpful. The neighborhood feels safe. A short walk north of downtown, still inside the old city, leads to Qasr Zaman, a great restaurant that makes Karak worth staying in. I would have liked the bed to come with sheets in addition to the microfleece or velour‑like mattress cover and duvet—maybe that’s just how things are in Jordan, or I could have asked for linens—but I slept fine.
