I stayed at this unique spot that lives up to its name, right in the middle of the city by the water, soaking in the beautiful medieval vibe of Ghent. The reception was extremely friendly, and parking was just a short walk away in a parking garage. The bed and bathroom were comfortable, and the breakfast was nicely presented with a wide selection—just let them know in advance what you want.

“Mosquitos and smells ruined a beautiful room with a view”

The staff were pleasant and helpful, especially with our luggage up the stairs. We skipped breakfast because the form we got didn’t list eggs, and I usually need more than just bread and cheese, so we ate elsewhere. Unfortunately, housekeeping took down a form that wasn’t meant for staff, so they made a breakfast for us that we didn’t know about. The room had an amazing view, but once we closed the large balcony windows we were hit by a sewage smell coming from the bathroom. To escape the odor, which came from inside, we had to keep the windows open all night and got bitten everywhere by mosquitoes. If I’d known, I’d have brought bug spray to sleep with. Luckily I have good earplugs, because the great views also come with heavy street noise.
