Lanna Ban Hotel

Everything was great! The place was private, comfortable, and the atmosphere was very close. It turned out to be a real win, with staff who are charming and always ready to help. The cabins are very good. The only thing I would improve is the variety at breakfast; still, there are three options and all three are very good!

The staff were friendly, and the jungle vibe from the surrounding forest with howling monkeys added to the atmosphere. There was no response to my cancellation request, a noisy street in front of the property, and the access road to the site had many deep potholes, but only for a short stretch.

We stayed four nights at Lanna Ban and the room smelled strongly of mold as soon as we walked in. The next morning we discovered animal feces on the bedsheets; the staff told us it was from a gecko and that all rooms were the same, so it would happen again. Over the following three nights the situation worsened: a strong fecal odor lingered, a bat hung from the porch ceiling, and bat guano covered the porch floor and chairs each morning, making the front porch almost unusable. A huge cockroach appeared in the room because there are no window screens and gaps between the roof and walls allow insects in. Every morning black dust—clearly droppings—appeared around the sink; we had to cover toiletries to keep them clean. Even after the cleaning staff wiped everything down, the black material reappeared the next day. This level of unhygienic, disgusting conditions is unacceptable. In a three‑week Costa Rica stay, we visited five other jungle hotels that were properly sealed and maintained to keep animals, bats, and insects out.
