Ocean Home Guest House

This home on the coast near Miyazaki offers a wonderful view of the bay. The host, Jo, was remarkably welcoming and helped us settle in and even ran small errands for us. However, the location is quite far from the city and the airport, so it’s best for a relaxing seaside stay if you can drive.

The sea view was nice, but the bathroom and toilet were dirty, there were no sheets in the bed (just a fleece blanket), and there were piles of beer cans scattered around the house. There was also a chicken smell from a cage inside the house—overall a forgettable experience, especially considering the odd interaction with the non‑Japanese host.

The host is great, we had an excellent time at JP who is very welcoming and happily shares his Japanese experience. The breathtaking ocean life is also very enjoyable!

“Some experiences are meant to change you; and then there are those that shape you.”

I can’t put into words what this place has come to mean to me. I went in with low expectations, just wanting to escape the city and clear my head, and came back with a suitcase full of memories from the short time I was there. The guesthouse views are incredible—sunrise seemed to change something in my soul—and the host and everyone there are so kind, generous, and helpful. They made me feel at home, assisted me at every turn even though they didn’t have to, let me join them on many local spots, and made those two days unforgettable. I might have been just another guest, but this place will always stand out as one of my happiest times in Japan. I’m endlessly grateful and want to say a heartfelt thank you.
