A beautiful old house with an amazing view and a large terrace that has a grill. The parking was problematic and the sleep was uncomfortable.

The house makes you feel nostalgic even before you leave; this is our second time at Casa da Eira and that already says a lot. It’s a place you truly want to return to. The building is over three hundred years old and that history shows itself not just in the fact that it’s an old house turned into décor, but in the stone, the thick walls, the wood, the little objects that have stayed, the open hearth facing the mountains, and that wonderful sense of living in a place with memory. The surroundings are gorgeous, with terraces, fruit trees, chestnut trees and mountains. In the morning, stepping outside, sitting in the sun for a while and looking at the valley is a small luxury. Its location let us discover a part of Portugal that we’re increasingly drawn to: the Douro, the Paiva, the villages of the Montemuro mountains, Lamego, Resende… although some of our best moments were the simplest: returning in the afternoon and feeling like we were home again. The house is well equipped and comfortable, but for us its true value lies in everything that can’t be listed as services. And then there’s the hospitality. Maria Helena was extraordinarily kind to us and Raquel always welcomed us and helped whenever we needed it. Those little gestures are what turn a house into more than just accommodation. We left with the keys but took a piece of the house with us. We’re already counting the days to return.
