“Lousy Experience”
We had a rough experience. We asked for early check‑in when booking, and it was approved for 7–8 am. After a long overnight flight from Sydney, we arrived early only to be told by hotel staff that we could only check in at 3 pm. Exhausted and hot, we had to wait over 5 hours in Honolulu. In Sydney it was cold and we couldn’t change. My husband, who has a bad back after four surgeries, needed rest. There was no kettle in the room for coffee. The room was a single bedroom with no balcony and a view of a shopping‑centre parking lot, yet we paid AUD 667. We spent the entire day and night in Honolulu sitting around a hotel, then left at 6 am for Maui the next day. The staff and owner offered no compensation for our bad experience. The private owner of the room didn’t communicate with hotel staff. We would have gone elsewhere for early check‑in. Please honour your approval next time— you can’t approve early check‑in and then back out! It was essential for us to get an earlier check‑in, and many places provide that. In Croatia, hosts were welcoming and accommodating, but that wasn’t the case in Hawaii. The hospitality we read about was non‑existent.
