The place was peaceful and comfortable, yet it was dirty. We didn’t bring nail clippers, but one afternoon we found large human‑like nails cut into the carpet—gross. It was also unacceptable that the vacuum wasn’t run and the bathroom mat wasn’t changed.

Breakfast and the location were good. That night we dined at the Mitre; after the main course I asked for a cheese option, but they didn’t have one. The waiter, however, went to his flat, brought his own cheese and pickles, and that was greatly appreciated. The only negatives were that the double bed seemed the smallest it could be, and the pollock we had for dinner was fine, but the bean side was interesting while the spicy carrot “thing” completely overpowered the fish’s delicate flavors—something Marcus Waringv would say had no place on the plate.

Convenient, quiet spot and I even snagged free parking. The room was spotless and the staff were friendly. The pub served decent food and the room had a good mix of teas, coffee and biscuits. On the downside, the single bedroom was cramped—no space for a chair, so I had to sit on the bed. It was right next to the boiler room, so the constant clanking was intrusive, and the music from the bar/restaurant kept going until 11 pm, apparently coming from just below the room, which made it hard to sleep.
