“Great location and staff, but misleading categorization”

The staff were extremely helpful, professional, and nice, and the location was perfect—centre ville, close to public transport and the train station, near the old port yet easy to reach other parts of La Rochelle. The building had just been renovated and was still in good shape. However, this place is a hostel, not a hotel, even though every listing and email I received called it a hotel. I booked it expecting a hotel, and all the Central listings I saw in my search claimed it was a hotel. When I plotted a route from the train station to Central, I discovered it was actually a hostel. It seems the listing changes depending on the search, which is extremely misleading and borderline unethical. The grounds and staff are great for a hostel, but that’s not what we needed for a quick, family weekend trip. The differences in amenities, service, and other guests between a hotel and a hostel are obvious, and the price was much higher than a typical hostel even though we stayed at hostel level. If you’re looking for a very nice hostel, this is it; if you need a hotel, look elsewhere.

The location was fantastic, our room was huge and perfect for the three of us, and the courtyard was a great spot for our group of friends. The staff were incredibly accommodating and the food and drinks were very reasonable.

The location was very good and the rooms were spacious, and the staff were friendly. However, the kitchenette lacked a tea towel or cloth for washing up, the pillows were bad, and our room was noisy and hot because there was no air conditioning.

The atmosphere was pleasant, the facilities were excellent, and the staff were outstanding. Everything was very enjoyable.
