The hotel sits right on the Negombo lagoon, offering a peaceful setting; we finished our 14‑day Sri Lanka trip there and simply relaxed by the pool, and honestly, we didn’t find anything we didn’t like.

The place was spotless, the room was spacious with a working AC, and Nico turned out to be one of the best hosts I’ve ever met.

We had a very pleasant stay at Niko Lagoon Hotel in Negombo, a great budget‑friendly option for travelers seeking comfort and peace near the airport. The English breakfast was decent, and Nico was always available, friendly, and ready to help with anything we needed. The hotel sits in a quiet, relaxing area, and the swimming pool by the lagoon was a wonderful feature. Overall, Niko Lagoon Hotel offers good value for money, solid service, a calm atmosphere, and a convenient location near the airport, so we would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Negombo.

Nico Lagoon sits in a nice quiet area next to the lake; the rooms are clean and spacious, and the small pool is lovely and clean—great for cooling off. On arrival we were given a nice cool fruit juice, and the breakfast was filling and tasty (go for the Sri Lankan breakfast, not the Western one). Nico himself is friendly and happy to explain the trials and tribulations of his hotel, and the whole place feels peaceful. There’s a bar in the new restaurant that’s being built (though we didn’t use it, so I can’t say what it’s like, but it seemed popular with some locals). It’s also within walking distance of a few eateries such as Dutch Trails. Nico is more than happy to arrange airport transfers. The hotel is underneath the flight path, but the noise isn’t disruptive during the day and isn’t noticeable at night. Unfortunately, when you arrive it feels a bit like a building site—though we were out of season and some work was needed. The rear of the hotel and the area around the new restaurant could use a bit more tidying. Some facilities were unavailable out of season; I suspect the water‑sport hire wasn’t available, and the restaurant seemed to serve breakfast only. Having your own transport is a blessing here (though they can arrange a tuk‑tuk if needed). Overall, the hotel just needs that last push on the investment and building front, but that shouldn’t put you off.
