I had a truly dreadful stay; nothing about it was worth mentioning. The whole experience could only be described as 'appalling', and the 9.3 rating on other sites must be based on paid reviews. We paid a tariff equal to a nearby 5‑star hotel, yet the reviews and location tricked us into choosing this so‑called homestay. Getting there was extremely difficult, especially at night when the road felt hauntingly dangerous and impossible to navigate. The booking was for 'Asapin Vanymahal', but the property is actually named Madhunandan, which caused us to get lost because Google Maps led us through a scary, isolated patch that left us stranded in the middle of wilderness with no way forward. When we finally contacted the property, they mentioned a 'Madhunandan' guest house on a turn we missed because we had booked Asapin Vanymahal. The place is not a hotel but a lodge, and the pictures are misleading, taken from an angle that makes everything look larger and grander than it really is. Our Super Deluxe Room was on the ground floor, right in front of the swimming pool, and the French glass window overlooking the pool violated our privacy. We found a dead lizard on entry, and then had to deal with cobwebs, moths, insects, and mosquitoes everywhere. The washroom was dirty and the flush was filthy. The bed linen was dirty, pillows had no covers, and the hard pillows made sleep impossible. There was no cupboard, and the fan remote had no batteries, so we had to use the AC remote batteries to turn on the fan. No staff member offered to carry our luggage or help us. Breakfast was not a buffet; it was served on order only.
