The base for walking around the Gion Higashiyama area was perfect. The front desk staff were friendly and multilingual, which was great. Even though the building is 100 years old and the walls are thin, other guests were quiet and well‑mannered, so we didn’t hear much noise. It felt like a Kyoto machiya with a strange, multicultural vibe. There was no bathtub, but there were enough shower toilets, all modern and clean. It was my first time using a homestay, and there were no problems. The only downside was the lack of a bathtub. Since it’s reasonable, not having meals isn’t an issue.
