“Bossy landlord will decide for you. Rigid timetable.”
Late check out granted. Cleanliness acceptable (apart from mosquitos smashed on the walls). Walking distance (about 15 mins) from the beach. The landlord phoned me the day of arrival and denied me a late check in, promising to refund me with a discount on meals equal to the first night fare. I was reluctant to accept and I was deluded by the lack of flexibility. The landlord imposed his "solution" and I had to book another hotel. I did not like the fact he called me by first name using "tu", pretending friendship. Addressing people with "tu" in Italy is regarded as impolite or even offensive. From a landlord to a guest is a lack of both respect and professionality. The meals were a bad surprise: he did not let me choose from a menu, simply saying "tonight we have this and this". In the end he made me pay 40€ for three dinners (2 first courses, 1 second course and 1 pizza in total), which is more or less the full value for what I had. Food quality was pretty average, except for the pizza which was good quality. I asked the bill each night and he replied "Don't worry", so the final request for 40€ at check-out was unexpected. About my room: the view was on a messy backyard/parking, there was a light humidity problem, when I arrived I found the chairs upside down, soundproof was poor and I could hear noise from other rooms. I also found the entrance gate locked during the day, which made me walk all the way through the backyard. I disliked the long list of rules hung on the room door (not exactly welcoming). Breakfast is poorly organized. It is served only between 8:30 and 9:30 (again no flexibility). Random food is fetched to the table, there is no real choice and again you are in the landlord's hands. He will decide for you. The first morning I had to wait 30 mins (stolen from my sleep) before being served. I really detested the landlord's attitude during all the stay, but I did not protest because it was clear he was in power, so I played the role of the satisfied guest and avoided a direct confrontation
