“Nice property but limited eating options in the vicinity”
We were greeted warmly by the hosts, especially since we brought our dog along. The gardens are huge and perfect for an energetic hound, so the place is very pet‑friendly. The décor, however, isn’t for everyone – there are stuffed animals and a lot of knick‑knacks that some might find off‑putting. The listing claimed there was a restaurant, but there isn’t one; the hostess will cook dinner on request, a fact we only discovered on the fourth day after telling the owners how hard it was to find a decent eatery within 30 km on Sundays and Mondays. The area is mostly geared toward campers and fast‑food spots, and you have to drive 15–20 minutes to reach a boulangerie. The meals the hostess prepared were delicious and packed with home‑grown ingredients, but we left a day early because we felt the surroundings were exhausted. Breakfast was provided and was acceptable, though a bit more variety would have helped. We were the only guests who felt a little odd. The room itself was a bit small and the mattress wasn’t very comfortable. The external lighting was completely inadequate; when we returned at night, the path from the parking area to the house was pitch dark even though there were lights inside.
