Khaled (Friendo) was the most caring, generous, and wonderful host, going out of his way to meet my dietary needs and taking me on amazing adventures; he’s a true gentleman with a good heart, and he will guide you on a medicinal walk (with his guitar) through the most stunning and sacred spots in and around Siwa Oasis, from salt lakes and hot springs to desert dunes, mystical mountains, and so much more.

We loved Friendo’s welcome, which felt like being greeted as real friends; he took us on a tuktuk tour of the oasis’s wonders, to many delicious small restaurants, and it’s close to a purebred Arabian horse center; his little house is almost on the desert edge, a bit outside the city’s bustle. Thanks, Friendo, for your extraordinary hospitality!

“really wonderful time in a simple place with GREAT owner”

It’s a remote spot under a dark sky—very simple, but Khalid is the gem of the place. He knows the area well and plays lovely guitar music; staying several nights might earn you an evening with him. However, there are no hot springs—none of the “hot springs” in Siwa were hot to me by the end of January 26, and I’m used to great hot springs worldwide; perhaps other seasons they’re hotter.
