The host was super friendly and went out of his way to help. The bus stop is a short walk away. Breakfast is prepared on site. After a long day in the mountains, you can relax in the private onsen. We would book here again anytime.

We were disappointed that the weather ruined our Hakone trip, but staying at Yupoppo made the whole journey worthwhile. The private onsen and tatami‑futon room surrounded by forest green was pure relaxation. A special shout‑out to Dai, the owner, and his family, who with extreme care and kindness turned our stay into something special. The bus stop is just 7 minutes away, and the accommodation’s order and cleanliness were impeccable.

If you want to escape the city’s buzz and soak up rural Japan, Yupoppo ryokan in Hakone feels like a Ghibli film. You sleep on a futon on tatami, with wooden and paper windows, and each day you can unwind in the private hot‑spring. The host prepares breakfast every morning and is very hospitable, even taking us to see fireflies one night. We also spotted a deer, a badger, and other animals. A short walk takes you to Sengokuhara village, where several local restaurants serve charcoal‑grilled pork tonkatsu. The bus stop is close to Lake Ashi, the Hakone Open‑Air Museum (with many sculptures and a Picasso pavilion), and the amazing Pola Museum (with an impressionist and contemporary art collection, and a piece of architecture itself). A unique and relaxing experience, highly recommended.
