“Disappointed”
The person who greeted me was cheerful, polite, and helpful, but the first morning’s breakfast was disappointing: only semi‑skimmed milk was offered, and the staff knocked over coffee cups and side plates. The hotel itself feels tired and in need of renovation—dampness around the windows, a radiator without a control that didn’t work, a faulty towel rail, and another radiator that only heated halfway. The paint was cracked and peeling, the bathroom sink had no blocker so items could fall in, the floor was uneven, and the deep bath was worn with no grip or internal slip mat. TV pixels were noticeably off, and there were no complimentary toiletries beyond a tiny soap and shampoo. Towels were mismatched, worn, and clearly past their prime. The tea tray in the suite offered plain tea bags and coffee sachets, with no other beverages such as hot chocolate, and no biscuits. Tissues were missing, and the carpet was stained and worn. The pillows were flat, dead, and smaller than expected. Cobwebs were present around the lights, and there were no leaflets or booklets about Dunoon—only a few tourist board magazines for the wider area. Cameras were installed everywhere, seemingly aimed at diners, which felt unsettling. I was also annoyed that there was no option to pre‑book dinner, yet tables were reserved for non‑residents. Food prices were exorbitant with no discount for resident guests; I ate elsewhere for better quality and lower cost. I had dinner only once, and the full‑cooked breakfast was greasy and burnt in parts; I stuck to poached eggs for the next two days, even though they were poorly cooked. Tables were chipped and small for two, making it hard to find space for breakfast crockery. Having run a guest house and offered B&B, I expected more here. I cannot recommend this place; I am very disappointed, especially since I love Dunoon.
