NN Beach Resort Nilaveli

Nothing was good. It was simply terrible. Even upon arrival we noticed the sofa in the lobby was extremely dirty, which is unusual for Sri Lanka, and we expected to pay the full amount at arrival rather than at departure. The room smelled damp and chemical, sometimes even like feces. It was so small that the door only opened a crack. There was no mini‑fridge or kettle. The pool and beach were full of crows, and the restaurant tables and chairs were dirty. They made no effort to clean it. Next to the hotel on the beach was a wild garbage dump. We decided to leave after one night. We changed the booking to one night and were promised a refund of the money already paid. Six weeks have passed, and after almost daily communication we still have not received our money.

The beach was clean and the pool beautiful. There was no Sri Lankan breakfast (the Sri Lankan omelette was the same as what we have in Australia).

The beach was fantastic, the pool great, and the breakfast excellent with very attentive staff. The place stayed clean and tidy, though we would have appreciated extra towels; they were provided when we asked.

“Great value for money, would stay here again and recommend to other people.”

The value for money was solid, and the hotel looked better in person than in the photos. It probably has the best location among hotels in Trincomalee and Nilaveli, with a beautiful beach that offers cabanas to shield you from the sun. The beach itself was clean and lovely, and the pool was amazing with showers. The surroundings were pleasant, featuring trees and some grass. The staff were very nice and friendly, and the room cabanas were nice, a bit small but sufficient for two people and a few days. There are good restaurants nearby. However, the place is filled with crows that are very loud during the day and may try to steal something from your bag when you’re at the beach; we saw a couple of crows snatch a pack of cigarettes from a group next to us in a matter of seconds. That said, it’s not the hotel’s fault that the crows decided to live there. The room wasn’t cleaned daily, but that was acceptable for us. We would have liked a second nightstand (there was only one side of the bed that had one) and more convenient places to plug in and charge our devices. Wifi was only available in the lobby, so if you have a room close to the lobby you might still get some signal.
